Nanami continues walking after he parts ways with Maki. The mood of Epiphany, the heavy blanket of reflection, weighs on him as he walks, as he thinks about how little he did to protect those children, how little they all did. In the end, they have to save everyone, including the adults, rather than the other way around. It's unlikely they'll all make it through. It seems extremely unlikely Okkotsu will survive, and the boy probably assumes that as well. It's not good for them, but their world isn't good for them or kind to them.

He returns home, however, because he knows Yu is waiting and deserves to know some things. Some of it, at least. Things he's kept quiet on a long while. As good a place as Folkmore is for them all, the weight of their world seeps in. Nanami slips off his shoes and takes in both Yu and the tea. He pours them each a cup of tea and brings it over to the couch.

"Mostly," Nanami says. "I cannot help these kids the way I want to, but I already knew that."

Nanami continues to hold his tea cupped in one hand. It's warm and grounding, even before he drinks it. Yu's there too, of course.

"We're not, but no one can be there for them as they experience new memories from home. It all happens at once. Whatever happens suddenly has happened," Nanami says. He takes Yu's hand and squeezes it. "I'm no longer there for them back home. I died."

Here is the only place he can help them. He's known that the whole time, but he didn't want to tell Yu.

Nanami sighs. "I should have expected that." As nice as it is that the statement isn't a revelation, a part of him is a little sad that Yu knew he didn't have a future either. He never had a future with Yu, except in the after life, before this. Now they can have a future and live. It's better than what they got back home.

"I should. The kids would stand a better chance of winning with my help," Nanami says. That's what matters most. The future of those kids, of Japan, of the world. Whatever pain and suffering it causes him is worth it.

"What parts do you want to know about?" Nanami asks, "I can review it all, but most of it is hearsay for me. I'd rather focus on the parts you want to know about. They're fighting Sukuna. They've prepared heavily, but Sukuna still has far higher odds of winning."

Gojo is already dead. Gojo lost to Sukuna possessing Megumi Fushiguro. "I know you would. You waited so long for me."

Nanami holds Yu's hand close. "I'm glad it didn't feel that long for you," Nanami says, "It felt an incredibly long time to be without you."

No one ever compared. No one came close. He may have missed out on some things, but he was okay with missing those ones.

"I don't know. Perhaps if I fulfill enough of my potential. It might be a disappointment for me to progress only to return to the after life where it makes little difference."

It's easy to forget that it has been longer for Nanami than Yu. Years and years longer. His entire adult career as a jujutsu sorcerer. He hopes Yu hugged him or cuddled him or whatever brought Yu comfort. Even if Nanami didn't feel it at all, he wants to provide that comfort to him.

"I may be able to negotiate a deal," Nanami agrees thoughtfully, "It would likely be predicated on me growing toward enough of my potential to be worth it to her. Ideally, I'd be sent back uninjured if I'm going to face the spirit that killed me. Whether or not I get to change things, and we kill him, dying immediately would defeat the purpose." He's thinking aloud. It's a new goal, even as it remains focused on helping the students.

"I will have to work on achieving more of my potential," Nanami muses. It hasn't been a priority for him. Helping the kids, living with Yu, those have been his priorities. They still are priorities. He simply has multiple priorities. He won't take any time with Yu for granted, not ever.

"Itadori almost killed him, but Kenjaku absorbed the cursed spirit, which as you may guess is not a good thing." That's why it might change everything if they can kill the patchwork spirit.
